September, Conquer Kids Cancer Awareness Month - 2002

002 Gold Ribbon Days, Washington D.C.
Parents, patients and childhood cancer advocates gathered in Washington D.C. in late Sept.  Armed with their hearts in their hand and a thoughtful political agenda, legislators welcomed our cause.  The rain didn’t stop our Rally at the capitol and nearly 90 visits to Legislators. Approximately 38 states were represented.  This national movement is creating a presence in Washington, they heard our message loud and clear.  (click here to review Legislative Agenda)

We need everyone’s involvement. If you are interested in helping to plan next year’s event or wanting to attend, you can email Lisa Parks at NCCF by contacting www.childhoodcancerawareness.org  NCCF has been the lead organization, together with collaborating partners, like us, that plan events in D.C.

“Conquer Kids Cancer Rally”- Sacramento, CA
Parents, children and supporters of childhood cancer gathered at our state capitol on Sunday, September 8th. The Rally was the first of it’s kind in our area and attracted nearly 250 participants.  Assembly member Darrell Steinberg, Ninth District presented a Proclamation declaring September as Childhood Awareness Month.  Dr. Jonathan Ducore, Director of Pediatric Oncology at UCDavis Medical Center urged support for greater awareness and the need for increased research funds.  Several parents of children lost to the disease setup a table in memorial.  Rally’s sponsored all of the Gold Ribbons for the event and participants were encouraged to sign large gold ribbons which would be taken to National Gold Ribbon Days in Washington D.C. in late Sept.

Dave and Jan Tamayo, parents of Liam, were inspired to take action after loosing their precious 5-year old to a brain stem glioma.  The Rally was an idea that truly came out of the love for their son.

“Babies R’ Us Safety Days”
This two day event gave us an opportunity to talk the community regarding childhood cancer. Plenty of gold ribbons were on hand and more gold ribbons were filled with signatures!

“Chevy’s Benefit Dinner Night”
Auburn Chevy’s, at 2100 Grass Valley Hwy donated 15% of dinner receipts to Help in The Fight Against Childhood Cancer!  Thank You.

“Hot Chili & Cool Cars”
Nearly 100 children visited our booth and made “Hero” bracelets throughout the event.  The Hero bracelet honors children in their fight against childhood cancer who are fighting for their lives each day and those Heroes we remember.  Children & parents had an opportunity to learn more about childhood cancer and how they can help.
